ACF chat room

alt.comp.freeware has an IRC (in-line definition: Internet Relay Chat) chat room where interested parties can discuss freeware or just hang out.

To join the chat room you will need an IRC program or 'client'(link to list kindly provided by CoMa sjomd294gdj5fa8tndtmm8lano180rh42b@4ax.com.

You will need to choose a nickname and can leave any other details as their defaults to begin with - your chosen IRC client's help should be able to show you how to do this.

Once you have a client installed on your computer then connect to the server: irc.openirc.net ...by clicking on the link or connecting to the server and joining chat room or 'channel': #acf

If it's quiet then stick around for a while, you're sure to find someone to chat with if you're patient.

note: Coma's post is shown below. Also see:

With the recent temporary failure of irc.openirc.net, I'd add

irc.byxnet.net and irc2.byxnet.net as alternate servers.

if you have an irc client installed; then entering irc://openirc.net/acf from just about anywhere (even your word processor) should launch the client program; connect to the server and join the #acf channel.

for those that do not want to install an irc client; they list several web clients http://www.byxnet.net/webchat/ that work from your browser; eg http://www.byxnet.net/webchat/irc.cgi choose a nickname and enter #acf for the channel ...

from the status window; do /list to get a list of other channels on that server

(see http://irchelp.org/ and http://irchelp.org/irchelp/new2irc.html for intro to chat commands)
